Student Innovation Recognized: GIS-Based Rabies Control System

May 1, 2026 · TECH SAVVY

A student-led capstone project from Misamis University has been recognized during the 2026 Information Technology Innovation Forum for its innovative approach to public health. The project, “GIS-Based Dog Bite Surveillance and Anti-Rabies Vaccination Scheduling Integrating Spatial Analytics for Enhanced Rabies Control,” introduces a smart system that tracks dog bite incidents, identifies high-risk areas, and automates vaccination scheduling using Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Presented by Mark Anthony A. Ogao-ogao, the system aims to support local health units by improving decision-making through data visualization and spatial analytics. It prioritizes communities based on case frequency and vaccination needs, helping streamline response efforts and reduce rabies risks. The recognition highlights the growing impact of IT solutions in solving real-world community health challenges and reinforces the importance of technology-driven innovation among students.
